Meet your mentee, Autim-Jizel.
Autim describes herself as outgoing, shy, and kind. She grew up in Manhattan and loves anything creative—art, drawing, acting, baking, and doing nails. Art is her favorite class because she enjoys hands-on projects, and Algebra became a strength after having a great teacher in seventh grade. She also loved performing in her English “Animal Farm” play. She has been involved in basketball, volleyball, step, nail club, baking, and NJROTC, and she often builds strong bonds with her teammates. Outside of school, she loves baking cakes from scratch, practicing acrylic nails she taught herself during 2020, and watching romance movies or shows like Caught in the Act: Unfaithful. She’s an ambivert who can be shy at first but very talkative and expressive once she feels comfortable. She hopes to have multiple careers one day—nail technician, assistant teacher, or running a small baking business. She joined GCSA to gain support, improve her speech, learn new skills, and feel more confident about her future.
There are many natural connections between you and Autim. You both enjoy TV, movies, exploring different interests, and creating things with your hands. Her ability to build relationships, share emotions, and support others aligns with your empathy, conflict-resolution skills, and comfort working with youth. Autim also dreams big, worries often, and seeks reassurance—needs you are well-equipped to support as a flexible, thoughtful social worker who provides grace and guidance. Most importantly, she wants a mentor who will help her express herself more confidently and navigate adulthood, which deeply aligns with the way you approach supporting adolescents in your work.
