Meet your mentee, Damian.

Damian describes himself as funny, energetic, and quick. He grew up in Manhattan and loves anything active—especially basketball, which he follows closely through the Knicks, Hornets, and Cavs. His favorite subjects are math and science, and he enjoys asking questions, staying curious, and learning new material quickly. He recently completed a paid internship where he helped build his school’s website and app, collaborating with others and developing soft skills for his work-based learning certification. This year, he plans to join more internships and play on the basketball team. Outside of school, Damian enjoys exercising, being outdoors, spending time with his girlfriend, and reading his book Read People to improve his communication skills. He hopes to pursue a career in technology, especially software engineering, because he’s always been drawn to building things and watching the tech industry grow.

There are many natural connections between you and Damian. You both follow sports, especially basketball (Go Knicks!), and enjoy staying active, exploring new places, and connecting with people. Damian’s ability to build relationships, stay calm under pressure, and express emotions aligns well with your patient, non-judgmental communication style and your comfort supporting others through challenges. His interest in hands-on work and problem-solving also connects with your experience building things and navigating complex HR systems. Most importantly, Damian wants to grow his communication skills, expand his connections, and feel supported academically and socially—exactly the steady, encouraging mentorship you’re committed to providing.
