Meet your mentor, Deon.

Deon works at Guardian Life Insurance Company of America. She grew up in Jamaica, West Indies, and later earned degrees in Accounting from York College (CUNY) and St. John’s University. In her role, Deon helps ensure companies follow rules, act ethically, and treat people fairly. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, practicing and teaching yoga, mindfulness, and self-care, and she likes unwinding with TV shows like House Hunters, court shows, and Lifetime movies.

As a mentor, Deon is known for being calm, adaptable, and deeply relationship-oriented. She believes that challenges are “figureoutable” and approaches stress with clarity and perspective—qualities that can be especially helpful as you, Justin, think through big academic and career decisions. Her comfort talking about emotions, love of problem-solving, and ability to think ahead align well with your talkative nature, curiosity, and interest in STEM fields. Deon’s experience navigating education, building a career in accounting, and mentoring young people makes her a strong support as you prepare for college, leadership roles, and your next steps beyond high school.
