Meet your mentee, Leny.
Leny describes himself as hardworking, intelligent, and caring. He grew up in Manhattan, speaks Spanish at home, and is motivated by the goal of getting into strong colleges. He loves math because it comes naturally to him and feels fun when he understands it, and he also enjoys science, especially Earth and Space Science. Outside of academics, Leny is deeply involved in technology—he helped build his school’s website, gathering content, improving design, and working with tech tools he loves. He also spends several hours each week in a web design program. He enjoys exploring different parts of Manhattan, being outdoors, shopping for clothes and shoes, and seeing new things. He’s interested in careers in software engineering, wants to prepare for the SAT, and joined GCSA to learn new skills, understand the college process, and keep pushing himself to grow.
There are many natural connections between you and Leny. You both build strong relationships, stay calm under pressure, and enjoy problem-solving. Leny’s interest in technology and creativity connects well with your work developing children’s books and your experience leading a college newspaper. Your shared love of exploring new places is another strong overlap. He will benefit from your patience, your ability to listen, and your enthusiasm for helping young people grow.
