Meet your mentee, Willy.

Willy describes himself as nice, talkative, a bit shy, and someone who worries about the people and things he cares about. He enjoys classes like Math, Earth and Space Science, Global History, and Architecture. Math comes easily to him, and he’s especially enjoying learning about the solar system this year. Architecture challenges him with lots of projects, but he likes building and working with his hands. Outside of class, Willy is part of his school’s biking club, where he has biked as far as 50 miles and earned medals for completing long rides. He also helps with school events in a role similar to an ambassador. For fun, he enjoys biking, gaming, and hanging out with friends—often heading to Times Square to eat or shop.

Willy hopes to go to college, get good grades, and learn more about different types of engineering to figure out which path fits him best. He applied to GCSA because he wants help improving his communication skills, especially since he sometimes feels lost or unsure about how to start conversations. He also wants support navigating the college process and building more confidence socially. Willy values mentors who are kind, patient, and easy to talk to, and he is excited to grow through this experience.
