Meet your mentee, Zaire.
Zaire describes himself as funny, respectful, and different. He loves watching basketball—especially the Golden State Warriors and the New York Knicks—and also enjoys football, particularly the Ravens. In school, his favorite class is Global History, a subject he’s always liked, and this year he’s also been enjoying ELA and writing. Zaire is deeply committed to basketball: he’s played flag football and track in the past, is currently on an AAU team, and spends a lot of his free time practicing or playing basketball games at home. He sees himself as talkative, supportive, and comfortable expressing his emotions, and he values sticking to a plan. He’s interested in going pro in basketball but is also curious about social media and YouTube. Zaire joined GCSA to meet new people and learn more about college and the college environment, especially as he explores the idea of going away to school.
There are many natural connections between you and Zaire. He is relationship-oriented, outgoing, and enjoys building new connections, which aligns well with your encouraging, people-centered mentoring style. Zaire is committed to his goals and puts real effort into developing his skills, and your experience navigating competitive spaces can offer helpful perspective as he thinks about basketball, media, and college pathways. He will benefit from your support, guidance, and curiosity as he continues building confidence and exploring what’s next.
