Mentor Spotlight: Robbin
Robbin is a former Executive Art Director in publishing, where she guided designers, authors, and editors to bring creative projects to life. She studied Art and Art History at CalArts and Hunter College and now makes ceramics—creating pots, sculptures, and everyday objects in a busy community art studio. Robbin grew up in Manhattan and enjoys traveling, hiking, watching TV series, listening to podcasts, and staying active through sports like tennis.
A legacy mentor, Robbin previously mentored Denise, now a freshman at Hunter College studying nursing. Denise joined GCSA without an initial mentor match and described feeling uncertain early on. That shifted when she was paired with Robbin toward the end of her junior year. From their first meeting, Robbin made a point to show up consistently—and in person. She regularly came into Denise’s school for mentor meetings, something Denise deeply valued and that helped build trust and ease early nerves.
Throughout the college application process, Robbin provided steady, hands-on support, including guidance on Denise’s college essay and postsecondary planning. That support has continued beyond high school, with Robbin still checking in and offering encouragement as Denise navigates college life. Denise describes Robbin as someone she can rely on—for accountability, guidance, or simply a thoughtful conversation.
Beyond her one-to-one mentorship, Robbin is an integral part of the GCSA community. She shows up at community events, maintains a strong presence across the program, and has also made generous financial contributions in support of our work this year. Her commitment—to being present, to giving her time, and to investing in our students—reflects a deep and personal dedication to GCSA and the young people we serve.
